Today’s Plateau People Spotlight is Logistics Coordinator, Anthony Bergen

• How many years have you been at plateau? I started September 2014. This coming September I’ll be starting my 9th Year.
• What’s your job title? Well to be honest that’s the funny part. I really don’t have an official title; my position was created around me. My business card reads Fleet Services & Dispatch. I’d consider my official title Husband, Dad & Lil Pop. If you had to put a label on me then possibly “Logistics Coordinator”
• What exactly do you do at our company? All joking aside, you can say just about everything “Plateau” passes through me in some way or another.
  • Here is a short list of the Major things I do:
    • Dispatch and Coordinate all In State Tandem needs assisting our Project Managers & Superintendents with lining up tandems to haul dirt, stone and anything else you can put in a tandem.
    • Finding dirt borrow pits for Import & Export of dirt.
    • Scrap tire and trash disposal.
    • Coordinate and plan all movement of our earth moving fleet under the guidance of our Vice President of Construction & Vice President of Equipment I Managing & Utilize Plateaus Lowboy fleet, working with multiple state authorities with ordering and obtain oversize/overweight travel permits.
    • Coordinate the needs of the rental fleet and track all units for proper utilization.
    • Under the Guidance of the Vice President of Equipment, ensure all sites continue to have ample fuel supplies working directly with our fuel suppliers. This is just a few of the things I’m responsible for.
• So far, what has been your favorite project? I’m going to have to say the Braves Stadium project. I was hired on in 2014 as a Dump Truck driver working nights on the Braves project.
• What is it about you that most folks don’t know? Plateau Excavation is my second career. I retired from the NYC Department of Sanitation in May 2013 after working 20 years. Retiring with the rank of General Superintendent.
• How would you describe your team or the people you work with? Reliable, Loyal, Hardworking & Diverse.
• What advice would you provide to someone interested in getting into this industry? There’s no reward if you’re not willing to put in the work. If you’re lazy or mediocre then this is not the industry for you. If you are nothing of the latter, you will find a rewarding career at Plateau & in this industry.
• What is your favorite aspect about your job, Plateau, or the industry? Fast Pace, I thrive on being challenged. My position is never dull or mundane. I can honestly say I love my job; I love the people I work with.
• What drew you to Plateau originally? And how has Plateau changed since? What’s kept you here? When I retired from NYC DSNY, I was 46 years old and was ready to scale it down a bit and start enjoying the fruits of my labor. That was short lived. I took several months off and soon realized that I wasn’t ready to retire mentally or physically. So, I nosed around the want ads and took a chance and answered the ad for Dump Truck Driver on Craig’s List. LOL!! The most notable changes were the Sterling acquisition of Plateau and ultimately the departure of Plateau’s Founder Greg Rogers from the day-to-day operations. The onsite of that transition was a little uneasy for most of us because working with and for Mr. Rogers we felt like a family even while we were rapidly growing. We knew with Plateau joining Sterling we may lose that close family atmosphere, but that change didn’t happen. With Brad Carroll staying on to Captain this massive ship, the sense of family is still felt even as our family grew. This is the reason that has kept me on board.
• What is something unique about you (a fun fact) that few people are aware of? I enjoy a good pedicure every few weeks, no polish though LOL!
• Anything else to share? Yes, thank you for your interest in me, my team and for what we do to keep Plateau Excavation successful.
