Plateau Excavation
WIC Week™, or Women in Construction Week™, celebrates and promotes the role of women in the construction industry and takes place during the first full week in March every year. It is a time to highlight all the great initiatives and work of women within the industry. Likewise, it is a time that brings attention to opportunities that are available to women in construction. This year’s theme, ‘Keys to the Future’, celebrates the strength and knowledge of women and the vital role they play in shaping the future of the construction industry.
We are proud to feature and spotlight the women who are part of the Plateau team.
Mother/Daughter Duo – Lisa and Christen Carroll
- Name: Lisa Carroll
- What is your position? Controller
- How long you’ve been at Plateau? September will be 28 years
- Why did you choose this career/industry? This industry chose me. I was offered an opportunity to work with a GC, and Brian Shipp was a superintendent with that GC. Brian left and went to work for Aiken Grading. They needed a Controller and Brian recommended me. I went to work for Aiken, then came to Plateau with the acquisition.
- What do you enjoy most about your job/industry? Working with people who take pride in their work. It is a true blessing to work for a large corporation that still carries a “small company” atmosphere. It is exciting to be a part of a company that continues to grow and be able to contribute to its success.
- What advice do you have for women in this industry or wanting to get into the industry? Work hard to achieve success & be a team player. Be willing to be available to someone who needs your guidance, be willing to listen, and don’t hesitate to ask questions.
“I am not sure how I could do my job without Lisa. She is always available for me to ask 30+ questions to and somewhat of a lifeline for me. SO SO SO MANY TIMES, she has saved the day for me .”
- Name: Christen Carroll
- What is your position? HR Administrator
- How long you’ve been at Plateau? 4 years in May
- Why did you choose this career/industry? I had worked some part-time filing, and since my mom works at Plateau, I knew many of the employees. When the position in the Safety Dept became available, I accepted, knowing that Plateau was a great company to work for.
- What do you enjoy most about your job/industry? Interaction with all employees: since I do onboarding, I meet almost everyone, and being in HR, I get to talk with many of the employees. I may not have an answer, but I will listen and hopefully be able to assist in getting what they need
- What advice for do you have for other women in the industry or wanting to get into the industry? Be open and willing to help out- you never know where it will lead. Teamwork!
“Christen is so helpful with anything onboarding and HR related, but also in any other task asked she’s willing to step in and help!”
