Today’s Plateau People Spotlight is Matt Collins, Safety Program Manager

How many years have you been at Plateau Excavation?

10 months

What’s your job title?

Safety Program Manager

How would you describe your role?

I support the company’s safety culture through training programs, project support, process improvement, and act as a liaison to various utility companies & other business partners that we work with.

So far, what has been your favorite project?

There are so many impressive projects that I get to see traveling all over the Southeast throughout the company so it to choose just one. They are all impressive, especially the data centers.

How would you describe your team or the people you work with?

They are high quality and very hardworking people whose results always go above and beyond expectation.

What’s your favorite aspect of your job, Plateau or the industry?

Meeting new people in the company and industry. Everyone has their own unique background and experiences that we can learn from.

If you could be any machine, what would you be?

A dozer to push forward until the job is done right.

What is something unique about you (fun fact) that few people are aware of?

My wife and I recently remodeled a home built in the 1870’s. We really enjoyed the process and the end result of seeing it through. I was also a firefighter and a member of the Georgia Search and Rescue Team before coming to Plateau.

What legacy do you hope to leave behind? Or advice you would give someone getting into the industry

Don’t hesitate to start in the industry. Accept the challenge. Sometimes the most rewarding things can come from the most difficult opportunities. If it was easy, then everyone would do it.
