Project Description / Details

A One-of-a-Kind Ballpark

Site development company American Builders enlisted Plateau Excavation for the grading and site package.

The project included the ballpark, retail facilities, and residential housing. Through development, Plateau facilitated and completed storm drainage, underground detention, water distribution, sanitary sewer retaining walls, asphalt paving, concrete curb and gutter, with the approximate sitework construction cost totaling $70 million. Plateau was able to build the stadium six months faster than anyone has ever built a stadium before because of our dedicated, devoted team and the size of our fleet. We remain committed to our clients’ schedule-driven demands and take pride in starting strong and finishing strong.

Blasting and Drilling

The terrain was difficult – and surrounding developments and utility easements all stand in its shadows.

The estimated $1 million drilling and blasting work on the stadium site took place under the scrutiny of countless passersby at the intersection of Interstates I-285 and I-75. For the required blasting, Plateau Excavation enlisted longtime partner LK Gregory, which had extensive experience in the Southeast for blasting sites that included the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, N.C., and Aspen Heights Student Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn., as well as numerous projects in Georgia.

“With a schedule that was heavily dependent on drilling and blasting, we had to increase production at every opportunity, as it directly affected the crushing operation, wall operations, and most importantly for us, the mass grading. The drilling and blasting were an important component of our critical path schedule,” said Brad Carroll, President of Plateau Excavation.
